Visions of paradise in Cornwall

Back home the gardens at Trebah are a subtropical paradise.  Huge trees of camellias and rhododendrons at their peak.
Just realised - and thinking back to Austria - there is a World War 2 link even here.
Part of the Allies' DD Landing Force left from the beach below these beautiful gardens.
My mother had a friend who lived on a farm nearby who got up in the night and saw the troops marching by on their way to Trebah. She can remember them looking up at her and smiling. How many never returned?
